Q:
How does FreedomZone work?
A:
FOL uses state-of-the-art wireless bridges that can be plugged into a computer, laptop, hub and local or home network. It works by linking or “bridging” your pc or network with nearby access points (AP's).
That means you have the flexibility to set up the wireless bridge and enjoy broadband Internet anywhere in your home or office. Plus, your FOL wireless broadband connection is always on and always secure.
Q:
Are service contract required?
A:
No, service contracts are not required to receive the FOL service. Services are charged on a monthly basis and may be terminated by the customer at any time.*
*Some specialized business applications do require equipment charges and contracts because of the large expenditures of money that are required to implement them in some cases.
Q:
What kind of support is available?
A:
Telephone technical support is available 24 hours a day. There is also online technical support, which can be accessed through email and our Online Help Desk which lists common support topics.
Q:
I have seen WLAN routers for sale on the Internet and in retail stores, can I purchase my own?
A:
Yes, if you wish to use it to create a home wireless network. Our Customer Premise Device (CPE) is not a WLAN router. Our CPE is more of a wireless cable modem or DSL router, and we provide it to you at no charge for as long as you're a subscriber.
Q:
Is Freedom Online as reliable as cable, DSL or dial-up?
A:
Absolutely. With FOL, you'll enjoy an always-on, always-secure connection that never ties up your phone line.
Q:
How does FOL's speed compare to DSL, cable and dial-up?
A:
Basic FOL Advantage Residential Service allows you speeds up to 5Mbps. That's as fast as cable, faster than most DSL and more than 80 times faster than typical dial-up. Visit our Broadband Comparison chart to see how FOL compares.
Q:
Is FOL as secure as cable or DSL?
A:
Your FOL connection is very secure. That's because FOL wireless technology uses several different security protocols. Using a combination of state-of-the-art security protocols and MAC address authentication makes your FOL Internet connection at least as secure as cable or DSL.
Q:
Can I set up my own Internet connection?
A:
Yes. Our state-of-the-art wireless bridge is pre-programmed, and with it you can log onto FreedomZone in just minutes. There's no software to install and no technician to wait for.
Q:
What if my computer is in one room but the wireless signal is better in a different room?
A:
This does happen, so FOL can provide you with optional HomePlugs, a broadband over power line solution. You can set up the FOL wireless bridge anywhere in your home or office, regardless of where your computer is located. HomePlugs use existing electrical wiring to transmit broadband to any or every existing electrical outlet.
Q:
Can more than one computer be online at the same time?
A:
With a hub, LAN or WLAN router or wireless access point, multiple users can be online at the same time with no slow-down. Everyone will enjoy the same broadband connection speed as always. The only additional cost you'll pay is for the networking equipment.
And if you want to extend your broadband service to multiple users throughout the house or office, no problem, our wireless bridge works with any standard LAN or WLAN router, hub or wireless access point to create a home or local area network.
Q:
Can I use my FOL connection in more than one place?
A:
Yes. FOL provides you with “Nomadic” service at no additional charge. Using a laptop, you can connect to the Internet nearly anywhere in our growing coverage area; just jump online. You can go online in most outdoor areas, including coffee shops, parks, bus stops, and more as long as they are within our coverage area.
Q:
Is FreedomZone like a Wi-Fi hotspot?
A:
Yes. As long as you are within our growing coverage area, all you have to do is log on with your laptop or plug your FOL wireless bridge into an outlet and into your computer. Unlike a Wi-Fi hotspot, there are no additional access fees to an FOL subscriber.
Q:
What issues could impact my ability to receive FOL signals?
A:
You must be within the rapidly growing FOL service area to receive an FOL signal. It is rare, but possible, to be within the coverage area but to not be able to receive a signal due to unusual geography or to be within the coverage area but not adequately receive signal due to unexpected circumstances. FOL will provide you with the equipment necessary to overcome such issues, however, there are a very few that we still cannot help.
Q:
Are there any limits to bandwidth usage?
A:
There's no limit to how much bandwidth you can use, subject to the FOL service plan you sign up for. FOL offers several different service plans, each with throughputs and features designed to match your needs.
Q:
What's an IP address?
A:
Every computer that communicates over the Internet is assigned an IP address that uniquely identifies the device and distinguishes it from other computers on the Internet.
Q:
What's the difference between a static and dynamic IP address?
A:
A static IP address is a number that's assigned to a computer by an Internet service provider to be its permanent address on the Internet. Dynamic IP addressing, or DHCP, provides a different IP address each time you connect to the Internet. Dynamic addresses are kept in a pool and are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
Q:
Will I be provided with a static or dynamic IP address?
A:
FOL only provides residential accounts with a dynamic IP address. If you are in need of a static IP address, our BizConnect Services will meet your needs.
Q:
What happens if my wireless bridge doesn't receive enough signal strength?

Q:
Is wireless bandwidth as dependable as fiber?
A:

Q:
Is wireless bandwidth less expensive than fiber?
